I was wary of reading this after hearing from multiple people that it was difficult to get through, that the author was whiney, etc.
I. Loved. It.
I want to drop everything and travel the world!
I actually listened to the audiobook instead of reading - and I think that made all the difference. It was narrated by the author herself. I would put in my headphones and listen while unpacking my condo, or listen in my car on the way to work - so I was able to finish it in about a week and a half. I actually looked forward to getting in my car and sitting in traffic just to listen to the book.
Italy was my favorite - I wanted her to stay there...probably because I LOVE Italian food. But I like Bali as well. India was kind of... meh. I think because I'm not into the whole 'spiritual' yoga and chanting. Although I would love to learn to meditate to help me not get so stressed at times and to keep focused.
I am so excited for the movie too - I have this thing where I love to read a book and then go see the movie. My girlfriends and I are going next Tuesday - dinner first at a local sushi restaurant Bambu and then the movie!

I am excited to see the movie. I only got through the Eat part of the book, but want to finish it.
I'm really tempted to read the book!
Thanks for sharing :-)
I think this is definitely one of those books you have to be in the right mindset to read. I bought EPL a year ago and couldn't get past the first few pages (yes I was thinking whine, whine, whine).
I finally dug it back out a few weeks ago and read through it and looooooved it.
I'm on the same page as you though, I'd love to be able to meditate and be more spiritually enlightened, but honestly last time I tried to meditate, I fell asleep.
I agree , it had a slow start in the beginning but once you get into the "meat" of the book then it is really really good.....I hope to see it sometime next week as well! I am trying my best to finish it in a rush but I decided that I don't want to rush through it...if I rent it, I rent it!!
i don't think i really want to see EPL...it's been ad naseum on the tv and i'm getting tired of Julia Roberts riding her bike and bitching about not getting out into the world. let me know how you like it.
and thanks for the Inception link. it did help. i found a LONG explanantion scene for scene on IMDB that i plan to read whenever i get time. :)
I am thinking the same thing--I want to read the book before I see the movie. Everyone is talking about the movie and the book, so I'm going to have to join the crowd and have something to talk about!
It took me about a month to get through. I got stuck in the Italy part and didn't pick it up for about two weeks. India and Bali were my favorite parts! I cannot wait to see the movie. Have you seen it yet?
I had a bit of trouble getting through the Inida part in the book, but in the movie it was much easier :)
