Nashville Outfit Planning

I love planning outfits with Polyvore (is it obvious?). I have a trip coming up soon for a friend's bachelorette in Nashville, and I'm trying to decide what outfits I'll wear...here are a few I created...

Also, have you been to Nashville before? No one going on this trip has been before. Where are the best places to eat? to drink? to dance? to shop? etc. Would love some suggestions!

Cheers!

New Year's Eve - What I'm Wearing

I have done a complete 180 and changed up my outfit after my husband commented that my sweater/skirt ensemble wasn't 'festive' enough. ???

Anyways - I decided I would be bundling up in a coat when I'm outside regardless of what I wear, so I might as well dress fun so I can look 'festive' while indoors. :)

Here's my {final} NYE outfit choice....

New Year's Eve 2012/2013 Fashion Inspiration

After checking the weather for Monday night, I'm rethinking my outfit somewhat. We're doing a house party, so I can pull off the comfort and warmth, but still dress it up with sequins and pearls. Here is my latest NYE outfit idea...

New purchases...falling for summer trends.

Like most new fashion trends, I balk at them at first...then fall in love with them when I actually try them out.

Maxi dresses are no different. As a short, short person, I never thought I could pull off a maxi dress...but now I own about 10 of them I think!

...including three new ones I just got from Target and Old Navy. I've seen the Target dresses circulating on the blog circuit, so I guess I won't be too unique when I wear them, but I LOVE them. So cute, comfortable and easy for summer.

And as a short person, I'm in love with wedges - which are a perfect compliment to these maxis to keep their hems from sweeping the floor.

{via Old Navy}
Not a maxi, but this dress is super cute, affordable and will be
great to slip on over my bathing suit after a day on the beach.

I was on the fence with these, but I think they'll be fun to pair
with lots of my outfits this Spring and Summer.

This isn't a good picture, but this is the last Target dress when I wore it
Friday to happy hour on the Shem Creek Bar & Grill dock. It was chilly, so I paired
it with my jean jacket. I got lots of compliments on it. It's perfect for a Clemson game
in the Fall too! :)
What fashion trends are you stocking up on for the summer? What bargain finds have you found out there? I've been really impressed with Old Navy this year.

How would you accessorize this outfit?

I'm loving the black and white stripes paired with one of my old tourquoise skirts for an easy throw it on outfit for the weekend - but I have no idea how I should accessorize it.

I came up with three options using things I already own, but not sure what I'm feeling...which one of the three do you think looks best? Or a combination of any of them? Or do you have other ideas for me? I think once I figure out which shoes, the rest will be easy.

How should I style this outfit?

April showers bring Easter flowers...

It's becoming a tradition with me - wearing Lilly again for Easter on Sunday...love, love, love this dress and I can't wait to wear it. Looking forward to beautiful weather and time with family in Birmingham.

Randomness Round Up

I'm rocking a major cold today - thank you very much ever changing, rainy, pollen infused Charleston weather.

I'm pretty sure my entire work cubicle needs to be disinfected. "Why are you even at work?" you ask.... Good question. I should be home on my couch under a blanket. However, my employer only gives vacation days... not sick days. So, if I want to take a 'sick day', it's actually a vacation day. In other words, we all come to work sick here and share germs... a lovely mental image for you I'm sure.

Anyways...

So with the cold comes medicine that makes it hard to focus on just about anything...so forgive me if this post is so completely random....

I really want to work out today, but my body is saying "No, no, no..." I didn't work out yesterday because I felt blah, and I ate horrible all weekend...so I feel like I have to do something today. I usually take Blast 900 on Tuesdays, but with this cold I wouldn't make it through the first five minutes...so I'm on my own today. I'm thinking I could probably pull off something like this...

But in the back of my mind I am not sure I'm feeling up to it...so I might just do an old faithful and hop on my elliptical and watch a new episode of my newest obsession on my Kindle Fire - Downton Abbey...which until recently I was referring to as Downtown Abbey (who knew?). I'm now a (proud??) Amazon Prime member - so I get free streaming movies, tv shows and book downloads. I'm curious to see how much I use it...but I also get free two day delivery on Amazon purchases, which is pretty cool. It's $79 a year to be a member - we had some credits from our wedding registry, so we decided to put it towards that.

Maybe all of this sneezing is exercise in itself...abs?

{sniff, sniff, sniff} {Ah..choo!}
Excuse me...stupid cold.

So my incredibly baby fine and thin hair has gotten almost to it's max length again. You see, my hair will not grow past my shoulders. "But Christy," you say, "your profile picture shows you with long, beautiful hair.." This is correct. As someone who lives with baby fine, thin hair that doesn't grow, I'm also a big investor in professional hair extensions from time to time -- but that's another post for another day.

So my {real} hair grows just about to my shoulders and then just gets stringy and flat. Usually when this happens, I chop it off and start over...it's a cycle I've had for years. And so now it's time to chop...

I'm super obssessed with Chelsea Staub's hair cut. And so is the rest of Pinterest...but I loves it. I used to have a similar cut a few years ago and I think I want to rock it again. I have to be careful not to go too short (above my chin) because my face is so round, aka chubby cheeks, but my hair always looks thicker and healthier when it's short. And it's so super easy to fix... granted, no more high buns on my head for a while, but that's ok.

So I have an appointment Friday, and along with these two images, I'm also taking in a picture of fellow blogger Jess from The Kentucky Priss who recently had her hair cut in a simliar style and I love it...I hope she doesn't mind if I copy her, in addition to seriously printing out this picture and giving it to my hairdresser. :)

P.S. If you don't already, follow her blog! She is super sassy and funny - a great read!

Speaking of following blogs, thanks to Pinterest, I've found a few new fashion bloggers to follow - one is Classy Girls Wear Pearls. I love the preppy, New England outfits which remind me of Blair for Gossip Girl.

However, I'm suspicious of this girl - is she real? Is she real in that all of her photos look like staged photo shoots/catalogues. And...she works for Kiel Patrick James. I'm sure she's 'real', but I wonder if she's a model and some marketing team from Kiel Patrick James is ghost blogging as her.

Randomly in her outfits she's wearing Kiel Patrick James...but not excessivlely so. I mean... the photos are amazing and the outfits are great...but it's just a little too cataloguey (word?) and staged to be a real 'look what I wore today' fashion blogger. Thoughts?

Oh look, just me and my impecably dressed bff sitting
oh so pretty on a table while at work.
And speaking of clothes... I gave up buying any clothes for Lent. It's a major sacrafice for me, but a much needed break for my wallet. I went to Target today and had to plan my route so I wouldn't walk by the clothes...and I checked out with a bill under $100. That's got to be a Target trip record for me.

So in place of my shopping, I've been spending a lot of time on Polyvore, creating outfits with pieces I already own... I really should give up the shopping longer than just Lent and just shop my closets...yes, that would be plural... closets... hence my shopping problem.

Finally, I leave you with some puppy cuteness. Everyone is posting the brooms standing on end and eggs standing up straight all over Facebook. At first I thought it was some faked thing to get 'breast cancer awareness' or something, but it's really a trick that works that has something to do with the equinox, leap year, planets aligning..blah blah. Google it.

So I posted this photo last night to Facebook...maybe I was just poking fun because I never could get my broom to balance on its own. {names have been hidden to protect the innocent}

Ok...enough from me. I hope you're all having a fabulous Tuesday. Cheers!

Green Jeans Three Ways

If you follow my blog, you know how in love I am with my Old Navy jeggings. Well now they have them in different colors - I got them in pink, but recently I got a pair in green!

So now I'm trying to figure out what the heck to wear them with, so I turned to Polyvore and styled three outfits using things I own (or have similar items).

What do you think of these outfits? Do they work? What would you wear with green jeans?

OOTD - Dressing like Spring in the middle of Winter

One of my girlfriends is having a girls' dinner at her house tonight - we're celebrating her birthday (even though she doesn't want to) and looking for any excuse to drink lots of wine on a 'school' night.

I'm sure you've heard, but it's 80 degrees here today. Sitting in my grey, miserable cubical all day has been torture since it feels amazing outside.

I'm squeezing in a run today after work and would love to run the bridge, but I guarantee the bridge will be FULL of runners and walkers...and I don't do well with crowds while trying to run...it's a wonder I make it through the bridge run...

...but I digress...

Tonight I'm breaking out some Spring attire - I'll try to get a real picture, but until then, Polyvore is my stylist.

Everything I pretty much have, but my purse is similar but slightly different...I do not own $1K diamond earrings...but a cheap CZ pair to substitute, and my jean jacket is a shade or two lighter and a little more cropped...

Cheers!!

Weekend Outfit Planning Part 2

So...I thought my outfit plan for tonight was going to work, until I went for a run yesterday around 5:30pm and realized...um...it's not that warm out when the wind blows and there's no sun. So...not sure my outfit I wanted to wear will be warm enough.

But I still want to wear that pink scarf darnit...so...how about something comfy and basic...black sweater, black ugg-like boots (I have a knock off version), and the scarf??

Oyster Roast 2

And remember this outfit I pinned on Pinterest that inspired me?

Well, I think I'm going to try something similar with grey and orange for our Super Bowl party on Sunday.

The only difference is I will probably wear a pair of grey flats that I have since I do not own (YET) these adorable grey TOMS ballet flats....which... the day after they launched I went by the store close to me that carries them to buy them...only to find out they won't get them in for weeks (what the what?). Boo. I considered buying them online - and paying overnight shipping so I could have them by Sunday. But then... I realized that they are already $75 and overnight shipping was almost $30... sigh. So no TOMS for me just yet...

Weekend Outfit Planning

Saturday my best friend's family is having a big oyster roast party in their back yard. The weather is going to be low 60's upper 50's - not cold, but not warm...

I have a green military-style jacket from Forever 21 that I've worn maybe twice that I'm thinking of pairing with jeans, boots and my cute pink scarf from Old Navy (lovin' me some Old Navy lately...seriously).

Wondering if the green and pink work. Looks good on paper...er...screen. We'll see if it will work in real life.

Friday Fancies: Mexican Rainbow + Charleston Blogger Meet Up

Hooray... it's FINALLY Friday! Whoop whoop! Has this week crept by to anyone else? Geez....so happy it's Friday and time for Happy Hour with friends! We are going to try out the new Taco Mamacita's Mexican restaurant on Sullivan's Island that took the place of our beloved Off The Hook bar. I've heard they have a Skinny Margarita that's pretty good that my new healthy self might try....

Planning on rocking my black ruffle romper from Forever21 - I know people either love or hate rompers, and while I tried to hate them, the four year old in me caved and I love rompers now -- despite that going to the bathroom is a little trickier. :)

I plan to accessorize with color! Not my exact accessories, but since it's Friday Fancies I'm allowed to 'splurge'...the versions I'll be wearing are much more affordable - like the nude strappy heels I'll be wearing look very similar to the ones below, but are more casual and WAY cheaper. :)

Taco Mamacita Happy Hour

Another Charleston blogger Kim, of Keller Creative (her blog and DIY projects are awesome!), contacted me about possibly doing a Charleston blogger meet up. I follow so many Charleston bloggers that of course I thought this was a most excellent idea -- I'd love to meet all of y'all in person.

Visit her blog to read her post from today about the possible meet up and options for dates - comment and let her know what works for you. We were emailing and thinking that this could become a regular event for all of us...she even made an adorable graphic.

If you're a Charleston blogger who follows other Charleston bloggers -- spread the word!

Happy Friday! Everyone have a fabulous weekend!

Swimsuits - Mix & Match

So this year I'm really into mixing and matching my bathing suits - it makes something I don't necessarily enjoy (i.e. picking out and wearing a bathing suit) easy. I have a few staple bottoms that I wear (black goes with anything!) and a variety of bathing suit tops I mix and match with the bottoms. Here are some of the styles I'm sporting this summer...

...and yes I realize that 90% of the tops are bandeau style, but I like not having the tan lines and I don't have much up top, so these usually work best for me. :)

I love that this is so easy to do and easy on my wallet. Target has a ton of cute options that are super cheap, and basic bottoms are always affordable and easy to find. If you find a bikini top on sale, as long as it goes with your basic black bottoms, you don't have to worry about buying matching bottoms.

Here are some links to what's still available online:

Friday Fancies: Nautical by Nature

Today's Friday Fancies challenge from {av} of {long distance loving} is perfect for my Friday plans - I actually had already planned out this outfit (that's what I do when I lie awake at night, lol) for happy hour today at Shem Creek Bar & Grill... So it's a great coincidence that today's Friday Fancies is nautical inspired...

I own everything in this outfit but the shirt - but I'm wearing something very similar - and the necklace - I have a fabric blue and white striped one instead, but it's close enough. Oh...and the koozie I don't own, but I ALWAYS carry a koozie with me...so I had to stick one in there. :)

This has been a pretty stressful week full of highs and lows -- so I'm anxious to get to happy hour and raise my glass..er...beer.. to the end of the week and the beginning of another beautiful weather weekend in Charleston.
