One Year Anniversary - Cake Topper

My one year wedding anniversary was this past Monday, and in following with tradition, we pulled out our cake topper to have a slice to celebrate. Here's a photo of our cake from our wedding day and you can read more about our cakes in a post I did earlier this year.

Whether or not the cake would still be as delicious as it was on our wedding day was definitely in question. It had been frozen in my parent's freezer since our wedding day, but made a 7 hour trek to Charleston from Birmingham after Thanksgiving in a small cooler filled with ice.... then immediately put in our freezer....then moved to the fridge the night before our anniversary to thaw.

We ate the cake slices off our of wedding china - we figured it was as good of an occasion as any to use it, especially considering we had yet to use our wedding china since our wedding day. :)

The verdict: Cake was still good! A little cold...as to be expected...but really good...snowflakes and all.

We also pulled out Michael - he's been "chilling" with his life size silver glove in our freezer since our wedding.

Here's the photo of our Groom's cake from our wedding day.

He's still got it... even though Willow wasn't so sure.

Did you eat your wedding cake on your one year anniversary? Did it taste any good?

As you can see in the last photo, I'm in my pajamas - yup, we celebrated our one year anniversary by grilling out steaks and baked potatoes, chilling in our PJ's, enjoying our newly decorated (love the smell of a real tree!) Christmas tree, and catching up on our DVR'd shows.

We were exhausted on Monday, because we had spent the entire week before celebrating our anniversary non-stop....in Disney World! Will have to post soon on that - it was amazing. Here's a teaser photo of us wearing hats and shirts that I made. This is how you know your husband really loves you - when he's willing to wear a cheesy shirt and hat for you all day in the Magic Kingdom because he knows it makes you happy. :)

Cheers!

Celebrating love with food...

My fiance and I celebrated our Valentine's Day a little early on Saturday night - he took me to an Italian (my fave!) dinner at a restaurant in Mt. Pleasant called Bacco... it was pretty good. We sipped on wine and stuffed ourselves with yummy pasta.

After dinner we headed downtown to Kaminsky's - a dessert cafe that offers a selection of amazing cakes, pies, cookies... even in the off season, there was still a long line out the door to get in.

I ordered a slice of the Heath Bar cake and my fiance ordered a slice of the triple chocolate cake. So yummy... and paired with caramel lattes. If you ever visit Charleston, Kaminsky's is a must do.

Happy Valentine's Day... how did you or how will you be celebrating?

Named Josephine Virginia after both maternal grandparents - Josephine was my grandmother. They are going to call her Josie for short.

Gratuitous cute puppy picture for your Saturday

Taking care of a little puppy is a LOT of work... we knew it would be, but we're constantly having to take this little sucker out to pee, playing with him when he's full of energy, and making sure we're consistent in training and schedules etc. We wake up at 3:30am every night to take him out to pee...it's like having a new baby...definitely feeling the lack of sleep.

I hate leaving him all alone while I'm at work. I leave Nick Jr. on TV to keep him company. We're crate training him, but during the day we put his crate in the doorway of the bathroom so he has the bathroom to play around in and then his crate to sleep in.

Willow is doing great though. He's learning so fast. He's having little to no accidents in the house and he's starting to go to the door to let us know when he needs to go out. He already knows how to "sit" and he's good about staying close to us and coming when we call. He loves to get curled up in his crate and sleep at night and gladly climbs in when we say "Night, night Willow."

He's a big fan of his puppy food, but he also loves apples, carrots and peanut butter as treats. He also has big time puppy gas...lol...and really lets some stinky ones rip while he sleeps.

We are over the moon in love with him and can't imagine why no one else adopted him before us. It must have been meant to be...he is the perfect puppy! And I know I'm biased, but he really is.

He's definitely keeping us busy though...I haven't been able to get in any running in the past four days and I feel like I've already gained 10 pounds. But when he climbs in my lap, curls up and gives me a puppy dog face..it's all worth it!

And just to clarify, Willow is named after the 1988 movie Willow.... not Willow Smith of "I flip my hair..." fame. :)

Meet Willow

"Hi! My name is Willow and I am Christy and Bradley's new fur baby. I'm 3 months old, a rescued dog, and definitely part lab...but we're not so sure what else I am... just a cute little mutt! I'm probably going to be big because my legs are long and my paws are big! Sometimes I stumble over myself because I'm not used to my growing legs! I am still learning to potty outside, but when I do I am very proud of myself and skip around in circles. I'm so happy to have a home and I love to cuddle with my mommy and daddy. I also sleep through most of the night which makes them very, very happy."

Casual Date Night

Tonight my fiance and I are going out on date night - he's been out of town for work all week and I've had kind of a rough week adjusting back to the day to day grind - so I'm looking forward to seeing him and having a good dinner.

I've already treated myself to a large Gingerbread Latte this morning from Dunkin' Donuts and Arby's sandwich for lunch...and tonight I'm going to eat until I'm stuffed...so calories be damned today! I'll start my diet tomorrow...right?

So nice dinner just the two us, and then we're going to rent a movie, go back to my place, build a fire in fireplace, snuggle on the couch...and eat popcorn and treats. I'm willing this clock to hurry up and get to 5pm...

How's your Friday going?

P.S. Don't forget to enter in my giveaway! :)

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

Today is my parents' 36th wedding anniversary. I've never seen them argue or fight ever while I grew up. And they seem to be just as in love today as they must have been when they were newlyweds...

When we were in the Buffalo airport two weeks ago, arriving for our Fourth of July trip, my parents were holding hands as we walked to the baggage claim. I'm so blessed to have parents who have such a strong relationship.

Early dating years, circa 1971

Love this photo above - early dating, 1972 - check out the bell bottoms and the old school Mustang.

The big day - July 20, 1974

my parents with their parents

Don't you love my Mom's wedding dress?? It's definitely got a 70's flair...but I've always been so in love with it (P.S. She still has it - vacuum sealed or whatever it's called - and I'm going to try it on when I get engaged). And check out the rockin' ruffles on my Dad's tux, it really compliments his rockin' stache... lol.

Here are my parents today - despite being in their 60's, I think they still look so young... Love them!
