Weekend races.

The last two weekends, I decided to put my fitness skills to the test and do two different races here in Charleston.

Two weekends ago, two of my girlfriends and I formed team "Blondetorage" and did the Rugged Maniac mud run at Boone Hall. We had never done a mud run before and have been considering doing the Marine one in Columbia - but we decided to test out our 'mud run' skills with a basic 5K one here in Charleston...

Me before the race - washcloth in sports bra as recommended
by my trainer - ended up coming in handy a lot! Great idea!

It was definitely an interesting experience, and I'm so glad I only paid a third of the price through a Group On, but it was a lot of fun in the end. I wore the WRONG pants and spent most of the race pulling my sagging yoga pants up as they threatened to fall off. It was also difficult to run....and run...and run... between obstacles with soaking wet, muddy shoes..... but in the end, we were laughing at ourselves.

The best part was the giant slide into a pool of water at the end of the race.

This past weekend, we all ran the uber-popular Cooper River Bridge Run...which is starting to get entirely too crowded and ended up in an hour delay due to several miscommunications, issues, etc. It was brutal waiting and listening to the VERY annoying announcers...sorry...if you were there, you have to agree with me...they were awful.

Anyways... the first four miles went by fast and I was feeling good...until I got off the bridge and made my way down King Street in the brutal sun and no breeze. It.was.brutal.

But I pushed myself and my best friend and I ended up finishing five minutes faster than our time last year. Yippee! I'm not a runner...and not a fan of running....so I was extremely proud of us for pushing through.

The race kind of snuck up on us this year - usually we have fun costumes planned, but this year we did a last minute get up which included cutting up our shirts and refashioning them. I feel like we looked like competitive cheerleaders. Ready? Ok!

Afterwards, as is tradition with our friends, we headed to Red's to enjoy the beautiful weather and totally negate any calories we burned with celebratory beverages.

It's probably good I got in some good workouts the past two weekends, because this week I'm out of town for work...can you guess where I am?

I love reading your blog and seeing all of your pictures of the city! I want to live in Charleston so badly! I'm hoping to move there after graduation!

The mud run looks like so much fun! My bf tried to get me to sign up for Tough Mudder, but one of the challenges is these wires that shock you when you run through them. That terrifies me!

My hubby ran the Cooper River Bridge run each year we lived in Beaufort. He loved the whole experience!
