If you follow my blog, you know I LOVE all things
Anthropologie... but I find myself somewhat perplexed by their new bathing suit styles... high wasted bottoms.
While I enjoy the idea of having my lower poodge stomach covered, I also think these would be incredibly unflattering... I mean, look at these poor models who are probably less than a size zero with no hips and the bottoms make them look big-ish.

I also think these are borderline 'diapery' looking, not to mention the weird tan lines you would have.

Where are the belly buttons?? I just think it spoils a potentially cute suit...
What do you think? Are you digging this new style or are you with me and thinking "Huh???".
And not to be outdone,
ModCloth joins in on the fun as well...

And on a completely different note... how beautiful is this Anthro bathing suit cover up? Love it! It's about $648 worth of beautiful... yikes! I would like to meet the person who spends that much money on just a bathing suit cover up. Granted this isn't 'just' a bathing suit cover up - it's gorgeous...but still.. $648. Geez!

There are some things left better in the past, this bathing suit style would be one of them. Yikes, yuck!
Love,

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who HATES these! They are "all the rage" nowadays but I think they're hideous
this is a total negative in my book! I like everything to sit low, I don't wear anything over my stoamch (no room for all the chips I eat if I do that, haha) These may have been the style back in the day, but it's 2011 and it ain't gonna cut it.. (well it might cut into some bellies, haha, but that's about it..)
I absolutely hate this look too! If the tiny models look like that in them, I can't imagine how huuuge my hips would look. Yikes! I also agree, that cover up is gorgeous!
uhmmm yeah those suits are ugly. There are some that are considered "high waisted" that are super cute but those are just cray cray looking! Oh and that bathing suit cover up is GORGEOUS!! I'm with you about meeting the person who would actually spend that much for just a cover up..good gracious.
Oh WOW those are....... something. I can't imagine ANYONE looking good in those!
Modcloth had those out two years ago.... I know because I bought one, the polka dot one in black & white, thinking it would hide my flaws.... um, no. In fact, I never wore it out once! I gave it to a friend of mine who has a very '50's era figure, and it looks the bomb on her!
I found out, the expensive way, that suits must be tried on before being purchased, and I needs me a string bikini!!!
Yeah... it looks like they were trying to do vintage, but it just went into unflattering territory. I do love that halter style top though. I'd like that vitage flair with just a regular bikini bottom, or maybe a boy cut bottom.
I too am seriously hating this fashion trent :(. A girl I know wore it over Spring Break and it just did nothing for her figure. I feel like tankinis are a much more flattering way to cover up a pooch than a diaper butt
Definitely NOT a fan. What were they thinking?
I cannot for the life of me understand those bathing suits. WHO do they actually flatter??

Girl, I just burst out laughing when I saw your post title in my reader. You couldn't me more right! What gives? Clearly they are going for the 50's, which is cool...but put a spin on it so it doesn't look like a diaper. I would look like a COW in one of these suits. Sheesh!
They are horrible. And I don't know who would pay that much for a beach cover up. But you are right it is gorgeous.
Oh mercy!! I'd NEVER!!! LOL
I love the high wasted retro swim look. But my favorite versions are by my friend Marysia. In fact, one of her's is sold at Anthro.
xoxo
What in the world?! These are awful! The anthro suits look totally...old fashioned and fattening! Not to mention the Mod Cloth suits which could also be called "titty smashers"...ick!
Yuck! These look like diapers! PLEASE, burn them all!!
